Oh come let us adore Him! Not only at Christmas but also all through the year. That was the focus of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church pilgrimage to the Holy Land this past November 2018. It was coordinated by Kathy Primm (Sue Smith Travel) with Fr. John Wakube as our spiritual leader for 10 days. A remarkable and unforgettable experience in making the gospels come alive as we visited holy sites, ruins and beautiful churches with mosaics. We also observed the intermingling of many cultures and countries on tour (China, Ivory Coast, India, etc.).
It was an honor and a moving experience to place our hands on the spot where the Baby Jesus was laid; visit the Holy Sepulcher (crucifixion and tomb); walk and pray the stations of the cross (via Delarosa); see the Mt. of Olives; Dead Sea Scroll site; rife a camel in Jericho; renew our baptism in the Jordan River; immerse ourselves in the Dead Sea; and so much more! On our “Free-Day”, without Ibraham (our guide, who was fantastic), many chose to visit Masada (site of an ancient palace) or perhaps visit the Holocaust Museum.
I’m quite certain everyone on the Pilgrimage has his or her own special moment. Mine was the day our tour, coupled with another group, embarked on a boat and sailed the Sea of Galilee. It brought tears for many when the captain of the boat hoisted the American flag (so far away from home) as we sang America the Beautiful! It was a very dreary overcast day, looking like it would rain at any minute. A beautiful surprise mass was planned on board. As Fr. John raised the Host during mass, a ray of sunlight peeked out lighting the water. It was as if Jesus showed His presence. I will never forget that wonderful moment!
A trip well worth it and we are now safely home. Thanks to all for making it possible with memories to last a lifetime; memories to share with family and friends. My walk in Jesus’ footsteps!
